Why Bridget Jones is the Ultimate Feel-Good Film Franchise

In a world full of romantic comedies and heartwarming tales, there’s one film franchise that stands head and shoulders above the rest when it comes to feel-good energy: Bridget Jones. From her first awkward encounter with Hugh Grant’s Daniel Cleaver in 2001, to her new single mum misadventures in Mad About The Boy (coming out in February 2025!), Bridget has won our hearts over and over again.

Here’s why we can’t help but return to Bridget’s charmingly imperfect world again and again:

1. She’s a heroine we actually relate to

Let’s be real - Bridget Jones is the kind of woman you’d want to share a bottle of wine with (and maybe a tub of ice cream, too). She’s constantly losing her phone, her self-esteem, and occasionally her dignity, just like us. Unlike those picture-perfect rom-com leads, Bridget is all about embracing the mess. In a world of perfectly curated Instagram lives, her authenticity is refreshing!

2. The ultimate love triangle

It’s like the love triangle to end all love triangles. Enter Colin Firth as the stony, emotionally unavailable Mark Darcy and Hugh Grant as the devilishly charming (yet wildly infuriating) Daniel Cleaver. Bridget’s caught between two men, and you’re caught between wanting her to end up with either one of them (depending on the moment). The chemistry is sizzling, the drama is absurd, and you’re left wondering how on earth one woman can be so unlucky and so lucky at the same time.

3. So. Many. Cringe-worthy moments

The Bridget Jones franchise knows how to deliver a healthy dose of cringe. From Bridget’s disastrous first dates to out-of-place outfits, these awkward moments are the fuel that powers the Bridget Jones engine. Seriously, you will laugh, you will cringe, and then you’ll feel better about your own life choices. Bridget’s missteps? Pure comedy gold.

4. The supporting cast is just as fab

We know you’ve secretly wished best friends like the foul-mouthed Shazzer (Sally Phillips) and the wise Jude (Shirley Henderson), who are always there to offer questionable advice and moral support in equal measure. And don’t forget Bridget’s quirky parents (Jim Broadbent and Gemma Jones), her reliable work colleagues, and Emma Thompson as her newly-introduced doctor. Like a fun, dysfunctional family, they make us laugh, they make us cringe, and they’re often the voice of reason (or at least try to be) in the middle of Bridget’s chaos.

5. Nostalgia hits hard

Bridget Jones isn’t just a franchise - it’s a time capsule. Those early 2000s fashion choices? Deliciously questionable. The music? It’s a vibe. Like a trip back to simpler times, the nostalgia hit will leave you all sorts of warm and fuzzy. And reuniting with all our beloved characters again after 10 years (and 25 since the first film) will bring back all the feelings!

Bridget Jones is the relatable, awkward, lovable mess we all secretly want to be; she’s sobbing over her love life or dancing around in her pjs, Bridget reminds us that life doesn’t need to be perfect to be enjoyable. So grab some popcorn, a glass of fizzy and prepare to laugh, cry, and cringe your way through the last installment of the most feel-good franchise ever!

Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy is released 13 February 2025.
